Flashpoint SHSM Career Award Scholarship
Who: Gr 11 & 12’s in SHSM Programs
Scholarship Focus: The SHSM Career Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding career readiness, professionalism, and growth through SHSM experiential learning. The recipient shows strong engagement in their sector, a clear postsecondary/career plan, and will use the award to remove barriers and support their next steps.
SHSM Career Award
1) Purpose (what it recognizes)
Awarded to an SHSM student who demonstrates:
- strong commitment to their SHSM sector
- career readiness and professionalism
- growth through co-op / experiential learning
- a clear next step (college, apprenticeship, uni, or workforce)
2) Eligibility (keep it simple)
Student must:
- be enrolled in an SHSM program (any sector)
- be in Grade 11 or 12
- have completed (or be completing) SHSM components (co-op, certifications, reach-ahead, etc.)
3) Scholarship Value
$500
To be used as the student decides
4) Selection criteria (best rubric)
Score out of 100:
- Career readiness + professionalism (30%)
attendance, communication, reliability, initiative - SHSM engagement (25%)
Based on evaluation from SHSM teacher - Growth + resilience (25%)
improvement, overcoming barriers, learning mindset - Career plan clarity (20%)
realistic next step + why it fits them, even if it it is NOT in the same SHSM sector
5) Application (easy for students + strong info)
Requirement:
- Proof of SHSM registration (Letter from Guidance or SHSM Teacher verifying that you are in the department)
- One reference: Generally from a SHSM Teacher or co-op teacher / SHSM lead / placement supervisor
- Complete Questionnaire:
5 Students will be short-listed and invited to an interview.
A finalist will be chosen from among the short-listed candidates.
