    Expectations for the Day

    Food

    A pizza lunch will be served and include the following:

    • Pepperoni pizza
    • Vegetarian pizza
    • Gluten free pizza
    • Pop
    • Granola bars
    • Nut-free treats such as bite-sized chocolate bars and lollipops during the session.

    Allergies

    • Flashpoint Training does not accommodate food allergies. Students with allergies are welcome to bring their own lunch and any medication they may require.  Vegetarian and gluten free options are provided.

    Water Bottles

    • We encourage students to bring their own reusable water bottle. Flashpoint Training will not be providing bottled water.

    Student Behaviour

    • Teacher partnership is required to assist in supervision and behaviour management at all times.

    Arrivals and Departures

    • Detailed parking, door entrance and meeting room information will be provided to you prior to the event. Please take a few moments to ensure you are familiar with these locations prior to the date of your selected event(s). Teachers will be responsible for bringing students to the assigned meeting room(s).
    • Formal programming will start promptly at 9:30 AM and conclude at 2:30 PM. Students may arrive late or leave early but are expected to enter or leave the room quietly to avoid disruption to other participants. In these circumstances, students may miss some elements of the day.   *We strongly recommend planning for early arrival to allow for traffic concerns.

    Communication

    • On the day of your event you may receive notifications of changes/reminders via phone call and/or text message. The cell number you provided when you registered for this event will link you directly to our field trip team on site for the day.  

    How to Ensure Student Success

    We get it! Students don’t like email, so no matter how many times the information is sent their way it doesn’t always make it to them. We kindly request that you help prepare your students for the day by sharing the following with them prior to attending our event. A great way to communicate this message is to read it directly before entering the doors to BMO Club.

    What exactly are we doing today?

    Flashpoint’s Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) exercise is the process of finding real-world solutions to authentic challenges. During your session today you will tackle the ICE process and work collaboratively in teams to solve a problem provided by our partners at the Toronto FC. Once your team has identified your solution, you will be asked to present it for evaluation. Throughout the day you will have an opportunity to work on a multitude of skills such as communication, organization, leadership, public speaking, time management and critical thinking.

    Student Code of Conduct

    Cell Phone Use

    • In alignment with business etiquette, students will be asked to put their phones away until breaks. Students that do not extend this courtesy to their fellow students and presenters will be asked to leave the room.

    Late Arrival / Early Departure

    • Formal programming will start promptly at 9:30 AM and conclude at 2:30 PM.  Students may arrive late or leave early but are expected to enter or leave the room quietly to avoid disruption to other participants.   *We strongly recommend planning for early arrival to allow for traffic concerns.
    • In these circumstances, students may miss some elements of the day.

    Behaviour

    • Students are expected to act a safe, positive and respectful manner.
    • Students participating in incidents such a slurs, jokes, threats, use of derogatory language or intimidation that promote racial/ethnic bias or homophobic/sexual harassment will be asked to leave.
    • Students are expected to behave in a way that promotes learning for everyone. 
    • Students may be required to listen to a short safety briefing if deemed necessary by the host facility on the day of the event.

    Certificates of Completion

    • Facilitators may elect to withhold certificates of completion if a student does not abide by the Code of Conduct.

    Students must meet at Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre. Flashpoint Training staff will walk students to our Ornge meeting point. The Centre is a short 15-minute walk to Ornge.

    SHSM Sector Partner Experiences (SPE) 2024-2025

    What is included with the registration?

    The day includes:

    • Face-to-Face SPE with sector partner (with Pre & Post work available)
    • Online SPE for students who were registered but missed
    • A career talk
    • Lunch
    • BONUS Online Certification with Teacher Resources

    Are there any additional costs?

    Sector Partner Experiences with additional costs are listed below and also listed on the registration for your review before registering.

    Toronto Zoo Admission $23 +gst

    TFC Game Ticket for April $31 +gst

    Will registering guarantee me a spot?

    Seating is limited and will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Once your registration is received you will receive confirmation of attendance approval.

    How will you ensure that my students are engaged in the experiences?

    Group sizes are limited for some experiences and small group work is no more than 8 students. With 2 facilitators, and feedback from our previous experiences, we are confident your students will be engaged and participate in our mixed media and diverse learning techniques. They will be actively involved in various games, activities and exercises, providing different avenues for learning. Physicality is always part of the day. We provide a high energy, interactive training session including music, video and team building exercises.

    What if my bus is late or has to leave early?

    Sessions start promptly at 9am, however we do our best to accommodate late arrivals and quietly enter the room mid session, or slip out and leave early before the end of the session. In that case, your students may miss some elements of the day.

    What logistics should I be prepared for?

    • Transportation is coordinated by the Teacher. The Toronto Zoo is located at 2000 Meadowvale Road, Toronto. BMO Field for TFC is located at 170 Princess Blvd., Toronto. Ornge location TBD.
    • Dates for events may be subject to change based on sector partner requirements. Final details will be provided one month prior to your field trip.
    • We accommodate students with the following dietary restrictions:
      • Vegetarian
      • Gluten-free
      • Students with other restrictions may bring their own lunch
      • Students are asked to bring a personal water bottle
    • SPEs will be rescheduled if schools are closed for the day based on weather and other unforeseeable issues

    Toronto Zoo is part of an ecosystem consisting of animals, people, science and expertise, all connected in their passion and commitment to protecting animals and the wild spaces they call home. Their mission is to save our natural world and inspire people to make changes to sustain our environment and all living things. Students experience this amazing venue as well as a tour and career talk. 2000 Meadowvale Road, Toronto.

    A vital part of Ontario’s health care system, Ornge provides high quality air ambulance service and medical transport to people who are ill or injured. In the air and on the ground, their job is to be there for patients, so they can get where they need to be.

    Ornge has the largest air ambulance and critical care land ambulance fleet in Canada, and performs approximately 20,000 patient-related transports per year. The day will focus on the sector attending. Location TBD.

    Toronto FC is one of the most successful teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). The team was founded in 2006 and has been a part of MLS ever since. Students will receive a behind the scenes look and career panel discussion along with their certifications/SPE. BMO Field 170 Princess Blvd., Toronto

    • MLSE strongly encourages fans to not bring any type of bags, but fans will be able to carry the following into MLSE events and facilities:
      • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 30.5cm x 16cm x 30.5cm (12”x6”x12”). No buckles, grommets/hardware or décor can be concealing any part of the bag. The bag must be all clear.
      • 3.8L (1 gallon) clear plastic freezer bag (Ziplock bag or similar).
      • Bags smaller than 16.5cm x 11.5cm (6.5”x4.5”), with or without a handle or strap – small clutch bag

    What exactly are we doing today?

    Flashpoint’s Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) exercise is the process of finding real-world solutions to authentic challenges. During your session today you will tackle the ICE process and work collaboratively in teams to solve a problem provided by our partners at the Toronto FC. Once your team has identified your solution, you will be asked to present it for evaluation. Throughout the day you will have an opportunity to work on a multitude of skills such as communication, organization, leadership, public speaking, time management and critical thinking.

    Student Code of Conduct

    Cell Phone Use

    • In alignment with business etiquette, students will be asked to put their phones away until breaks. Students that do not extend this courtesy to their fellow students and presenters will be asked to leave the room.

    Late Arrival / Early Departure

    • Formal programming will start promptly at 11:30 AM and conclude at 4:30 PM.  Students may arrive late or leave early but are expected to enter or leave the room quietly to avoid disruption to other participants.   *We strongly recommend planning for early arrival to allow for traffic concerns.
    • In these circumstances, students may miss some elements of the day.

    Behaviour

    • Students are expected to act a safe, positive and respectful manner.
    • Students participating in incidents such a slurs, jokes, threats, use of derogatory language or intimidation that promote racial/ethic bias or homophobic/sexual harassment will be asked to leave.
    • Students are expected to behave in a way that promotes learning for everyone. 
    • Students may be required to listen to a short safety briefing if deemed necessary by the host facility on the day of the event.

    Certificates of Completion

    • Facilitators may elect to withhold certificates of completion if a student does not abide by the Code of Conduct.

    A representative from Flashpoint Training will meet you in the parking lot outside of Gate 2. Gate 2 is located on the East side of BMO Field.

    Buses and personal vehicles may park in the Green P parking lot at Gate 2.

    Flashpoint Training is excited to welcome you to our Toronto Argonauts events. Our facilitators, along with Toronto Argonauts staff will ensure your students have opportunities to participate in our mixed media and diverse learning techniques.  They will be actively involved in various games, activities and exercises, providing different avenues for learning. Physicality is always part of the day.  We provide a high energy, interactive training session including music, video and team building exercises.
